Loving our pets IS therapy

Pets can play a vital role in decreasing anxiety and depression while increasing connection for individuals and couples. Texas law requires a licensed therapist (PhD, PsyD, LPC, LCSW or LMFT) to evaluate a client in order to determine eligibility for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA).

Emotional Support Animal

An animal that improves a person’s mental health by living and accompanying their owner as a comfort animal. They do not require any specific training but are limited in their ability to be in public or commercial spaces unless permitted by posted policies. This is different from a “Psychiatric Service Dog”, which is specially trained, involving an intensive application process and allowed in all spaces their owner wishes to go.

ESA application process

  • Schedule assessment by emailing.
  • Complete a phone assessment to determine eligibility.
  • If eligible, a fee of $100 is charged and you will receive an email with a letter verifying your animal as an emotional support animal.
  • Additional pets are $50.
